About Joy and Peace Counseling

In terms of clients, I work with late teens, adults, and couples, clinically focusing on the following areas:

  • Grief

  • Trauma/PTSD

  • Faith concerns

  • Marriage/couples counseling/relationship health

  • Career exploration/transition

  • Anxiety/Depression/Mood disorders

  • Self-Esteem/negative belief tendencies

  • ADHD, OCD, Personality difficulties

  • Goals/direction/vision clarification

My ideal client knows what they don’t want, is willing to do what it takes to make the changes, and is open to the process of change, even changes not initially anticipated. They do what they need to and clearly communicate what is on their minds and collaborate with me to build their plan for change.

I help adults and couples impacted by grief and trauma who feel they are spiraling in patterns that lead to nowhere yet are not sure how to change or what direction to take, but just not this. My work helps them clarify meaning, heal relationally with themselves and others, and realign with what matters most while gaining traction. In particular, I have a special spot in my heart first responder populations and those in the caring professions (pastors, counselors, social workers, medical fields), though I extend my work to anyone who is seeking change but not sure what to do.

My clients often feel emotionally stuck, lost, and just surviving with the weight of past baggage and current stress. Due to the rat race of life, major setbacks, betrayals, and disappointments they’ve lost touch with their core self and sense of purpose, and often feel fearful or disillusioned about others and life.

My approach combines evidence-based therapies with spiritual and existential meaning-making to help you uncover who you are, heal, and live life anew.  You change and improve in understanding your “why” and develop and put into practice your “how” of healing and growth. You get healed and restored and this restoration supports not only feeling good but also purposeful and successful living in reality.

The ideal is to experience a profound shift toward peace, joy, meaning and clarity, enjoy more ease and fulfillment in relationships, feel confident in your next steps, and gain greater sense of place, purpose, and belonging in daily living with a more adaptive vision for the future.

My Services Offered

Individual Counseling

I will work with you one-on-one to clarify your problem areas, identify actionable goals, develop skills, experience healing, grow in understanding, and find peace, joy, and hope. Session frequency and what we work on together may vary. Feel free to set up a time to speak with me for a few minutes to get greater understanding of what we can work on together. Cost per session varies. See me for more details…

Couples Counseling

Creating a life together with another person can offer so many opportunities for excitement, hope, joy, dreams… it can also reveal wounds, challenges, unrealistic expectations, fears, and personal development needs. I work with couples to create greater emotional, spiritual, and values-based intimacy and connection as well as improved communication, problem-solving, showing respect, and crafting a shared vision and plan for a rich and fruitful future. Feel free to set up a time to talk with me further about how I may be able to help your relationship thrive. Cost per session varies. See me for more details…

Trauma via EMDR

Everyone has wounds from the past, some of which are given room to heal in the past while others remain “sticky” and continue to weigh us down and interrupt our lives and progress.. EMDR is a way to clear out the “stickiness” of past events and get “unstuck”, breathing a sigh of relief and feeling at ease and fuller in life. Feel free to outreach me more to discuss what EMDR is and what it could possibly do for you either as a standalone treatment or a way to accelerate therapy results…

Methods of Payment and Options for Therapy

Outside of the links for services (see contact section below), I do not take nor submit billing for insurance for particular reasons. I do not believe that one has to be “diagnosable” to need help (in fact, I think it would prevent alot of things from happening). As well, I do not ideally agree with the idea that the insurance industry dictates how many sessions or how frequently we would meet nor how best to interact. Therefore, outside of the platforms listed below, I am also willing to see clients individually to address concerns that would not have a DSM-5 code or for those who think it would benefit them to meet more frequently. We can discuss arrangements, but I would generally charge $135 for a 60-minute session and supplemental contacts (emails, phone contacts, SMS messages) would vary in cost. Please contact me to discuss further details.
